“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013.”  Juju: She couldn’t have been happier prancing in her pink frock and collecting rocks. The only time she’s let me wash her princess” dress on this road trip was when she accidentally peed on it. Mowgli: My sweet but stubborn little boy who’s…

An impulse for Grand Adventure

Originally posted on BlinkPacking:
I have always dreamed of purchasing an Airstream travel trailer, throwing caution (read: my job) to the wind, and cruising the winding roads of America with no clear destination in mind and no end-date in sight. Reality check: I have been married for a decade, I have a three-year-old son, I…

Renovating Wallabee: 24 hours to go

This time tomorrow, Wallabee will be delivered to the port in L.A, ready to be shipped to her new home in Australia. It’s been a crazy two weeks of renovating , with five men on the job to finish her by our deadline. I can’t wait to see and post the final pictures.

Renovating Wallabee: basic carpentry done

The basic woodwork is finished. Now it’s time for the primer and cabinets. Its a little bit darker than we’d like, so we’ve decided to install two skylights to maximise the natural light.

Living in a Pressure Cooker

I’m enjoying my friend’s reactions when I tell them we’re planning to live in a vintage Airstream and travel around Australia with our three little munchkins. The best so far, “I think you’re bonkers jamming three kids and two adults into a confined space like that. Maybe you can be sponspored by Kambrook or some…

Airstream yuppies

We’ve recently moved to a suburb in West Melbourne where the locals think yuppies are scum. “If I could get a gun and shoot them I would,” lamented an elderly Australian at the Op Shop last week, as she complained about the music her neighbours listen to. “They play that Beethoven crap.” I’m already picturing…

Embracing the green-eyed monster

I realised I was in need of a new adventure when I felt jealous of one of my best friends. Envy is not an emotion I commonly feel, but when my friend and her family moved to a quiet seaside town to escape the treadmill, the niggling feeling started. She bought a house within walking distance…

Three kids under three

Sometimes I wonder what I was thinking starting this blog while I’m juggling three kids under three? I haven’t had a full nights sleep for nearly three years; the house resembles a condemned creche; there are never enough hours in the day to get through half my list of chores, let alone write anything interesting….

Designing a home away from home

With the twins now crawling, attempting to eat every power cord they can find and climbing up every rickety piece of furniture in the house, it’s impossible to find time to work on our Airstream renovation. There’s so much that could be done with the re-design if only Remi or I had the head space to think……

Three and a half bunnies. Each.

My boys have seven stuffed bunnies. Seven. They’re barely eight months old. There are starving children in the world, children who are lucky to have one single toy to play with and my twins own three and a half bunnies each. Sometimes I look around at all the useless things cluttering our house and I feel…
