Marshmallows and Dirt

It was a bit of a gamble, but we made it in one piece up nearly 100-kilometres of dirt road to Mungo National Park. The ranger I spoke to on the phone advised half the road had just been re-surfaced: “it’s as good as it will ever get for a caravan,” she said optimistically. We…

Not child proof

We finally have our Airstream out of Quarantine. Hooray. She’s a little beaten up from the sea trip and has some aesthetic issues, but nothing too major. The kids had their first play in her today and it was a complete nightmare. They all fought over the LED lights. The twins climbed into the bathroom…

Isn’t she pretty?

Our beautifully renovated Airstream is finally bound for Australia. After a few Thanksgiving-related delays, Wallabee has set sail on board the Kota Jaya. She is now surfing the waves of the North Pacific Ocean and will hopefully arrive in Melbourne in less than three weeks. Check out how she turned out – I’ll post more…

Loitering at the dock

Wallabee has begun her long journey to Australia. Our Airstream is now sitting pretty at the dock, waiting for the next ship to Melbourne.

Renovating Wallabee: 24 hours to go

This time tomorrow, Wallabee will be delivered to the port in L.A, ready to be shipped to her new home in Australia. It’s been a crazy two weeks of renovating , with five men on the job to finish her by our deadline. I can’t wait to see and post the final pictures.

Renovating Wallabee: water and plumbing lines

Things are starting to move along with our Airstream renovation. The water tanks and plumbing lines have been installed. Now the rough carpentry is being worked on. Soon we’ll actually have to make some decisions about the fittings. It didn’t feel real until now! It’s time to start planning our road trip – all suggestions…

Please send money

We have been sending thousands of dollars to some complete strangers in the United States to renovate a vintage Airstream. It wasn’t until we needed to pay for new tires and I was asked me to send my credit card details directly to the mechanic, “Miguel,” that it hit me how much trust we are…

Welcome ‘Wallabee’

Our Airstream has arrived in Santa Barbara (at the HofArc renovating yard). ‘Wallabee,’ as she has been nicknamed by Wally Hofmann, has already seen more of the United States than we have.

Hello Airstream!

We’ve taken the plunge. After months of fantasising about owning a Vintage Airstream, we’ve bought a 28 foot, 1968 Ambassador on eBay. Now begins the adventure – first shipping it from Minnesota to Santa Barbara to be customised, then all the way to Australia. Our first attempt to buy an Airstream fell through after the owner…
