Another kind of life?

“A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013.”

Juju, Mowgli and Coco: All in absolute bliss playing in the beautiful white sands of Currarong Beach (Jervis Bay) on a drive from Sydney to Melbourne.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what kind of life I want for my children.

And it’s not the one we’ve been living since coming back from our Road Trip.

There have been about four nice days of sunshine here in Melbourne in the last 2 months.

Don’t get me wrong. Melbourne is a wonderful, cosmopolitan, vibrant, creative, culturally diverse, interesting city with great food.

But  boy does the weather suck here. And I am bored of being indoors.

I want my kids to be sun-kissed and free; to run and dig and swim; to roll in waves or dirt on a farm; to collect sticks and shells;  to have a gazillion pets; to have space; to explore.

And living in the first world I have the choice to give my kids this kind of childhood, especially in a country like Australia.

Even without lots of money.

So why is it so hard to let go of your old life?

  1. Take a deep breath and just do it! It will be the best education your children will ever have, a wonderful lifestyle for your family and you can always go back to the city for visits. I think you’ll find you will visit less and less as time goes on.

  2. Son, after letting go of my gorgeous house with so many emotional ties (& habits), I’ve realised, I CAN actually live anywhere & I’m still the same person. SA sounds like it’s beckoning ??? I need a place to come and visit ! xxxxx
